Bones' Bodacious BBQ Sauce

Social Sunday

Seth and I have a mutual love for BBQ. From the delicious taste to the amazing sides to the fact that we went there on our first "outing" as we will call it since we weren't officially dating yet (don't we all love that lovely awkward period of relationships?), it is our favorite cuisine. My lovely husband, otherwise known as the "Grill Master", decided to kick it up a notch tonight and create his very own BBQ sauce. He grated, poured, sprinkled, measured, heated, and stirred what I tasted to be THE BEST BBQ sauce ever. I promise I am not being biased. I love the man, but I will tell him how it is. Well, I told him that his creation was what I wanted my chicken, pork, and beef marinated in before every future BBQ we have. I may or may not have licked the bowl clean (and I thought I only did that with dessert batter!). Luckily the recipe made enough for our meal plus 3 mason jars. We made a delicious BBQ chicken dinner with squash sauteed in the BBQ sauce and a side of cheesy beer bread from the bread machine. Sounds like a deliciously balanced meal to me! I can't wait until our next BBQ meal! He has allowed me to share his top secret recipe though. Give it a shot, and let us know what you think!

Bones' Bodacious BBQ Sauce

Ingredients
-3 cups ketchup
-1 cup yellow mustard
-1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
-6 tbsps water
-6 tbsps apple cider vinegar
-6 tbsps Worcestershire sauce
-3 tbsps salt
-1 1/2 tbsps ground black pepper
-1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter
-2 cloves minced garlic
-1 cup grated red onion
-1/2 tbsp cayenne pepper
-1/2 tbsp chili powder

Directions
1. Mix first 8 ingredients together in a large bowl.
2. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat, and then add garlic and onion. Stir for about 5min.
3. Add cayenne pepper and chili powder to saucepan and stir for about 3min.
4. Stir in sauce mixture from step 1 and bring to a bowl. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 40min. Sauce will end as a deep red color.

*Use as marinade for meat of your choice!
*Use as a dip for chicken nuggets or potato skins!
*Use as a rub while grilling!
