We celebrated Father's Day with Seth's dad today, and he requested Seth's famous brats and burgers for his celebration dinner (excellent choice!). I decided to stick with the grilling theme for dessert by taking a spin on a classic favorite: the banana split. Now, this isn't your typical banana split sundae, and thank goodness for that because it would get really messy on a grill. Banana, peanut butter, and chocolate already make a terrific trio, but when you add heat to the element, it creates this magically sweet smoothness that makes each scoop melt together in your mouth. Since heat is key, change the title of this recipe for whatever kind of heat you are using. This came in handy today because the weather did not cooperate with us and forced us inside. With only 3 ingredients, this recipe is so easy and quick to throw together, especially since those ingredients are common pantry items. Get the kids involved with this one, and don't be afraid to get a little messy!
Grilled/Smoked/Baked Banana Split
Ingredients
-1 banana
-2 tbsp creamy peanut butter
-2 tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Slice banana long-wise with the peel still on being careful not to slice through the bottom peel.
3. Smear peanut butter in between 2 banana halves.
4. Sprinkle chocolate chips over peanut butter.
5. Wrap in tin foil and bake for 20 min.
6. Remove from foil and use the banana peel as a dish to scoop out the insides.
*Grill, campfire, and oven friendly!
*Use as many bananas as you have people and increase the other ingredients accordingly!
