Tuesday's Tip
The holiday season is a time for counting your blessings and giving to those in need. There tends to be lots of food drives that schools and churches hold to provide items to families who may be struggling, and it is a really great time for everyone who is able to graciously help others. While contributing to these organizations, keep in mind that those who are struggling also need to have good nutrition. They may need more nutrition than others since they may only be able to afford meals that are cheaper like from fast-food establishments or convenience stores. When choosing items to purchase for these food drives, look for canned vegetables that have no salt added, soups that are low in sodium and high in protein, brown rice instead of white rice, and fruit juices that are made with 100% fruit. The price point won't be much different, but the nutrition level will provide a lot more nourishment for those receiving the items.
