Dessert Sans Chocolate

Sweet Recipe Saturday

The season of Lent is upon us, and it is traditional to give something up or start doing something new that encourages you to practice will power and commitment. I decided to really challenge myself this year and give up something that I love the most, something I usually have every single day, and something that is constantly around making it even more difficult to stay away from... CHOCOLATE! My family and friends had their doubts knowing what a big part of my life chocolate is, and even I had my doubts. The best way to get around it, though, is to think of other delicious options to satisfy my sweet tooth with. My Aunt and Uncle visited with us a couple of days ago, so I decided then was the perfect time to try a yummy non-chocolate dessert that everyone would love.

Blueberry Crumble

Ingredients

1 21oz can blueberry pie filling
1 tsp lemon juice
1 package French vanilla cake mix
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup melted butter

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Spread pie filling into a 9"x13" baking dish.
3. Sprinkle lemon juice over pie filling.
4. Stir cake mix, almonds, and butter in a large bowl until crumbly (you may need to use your hand).
5. Take hand-fulls and evenly sprinkle over the pie filling.
6. Bake for 30min or until top is golden.

This was so tasty that I wasn't even craving chocolate afterwards! Also, it has blueberries in which means it's healthy, right? ;)

Even Motzi wanted to try it!

*Serve this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

*Top it off with a dollop of whipped cream!
*Reheat individual servings in a microwave prior to serving if you like it hot better!
