Dressed Up Rice Crispies

Sweet Recipe Saturday

Some good friends of ours recently moved into a new house and wanted to show all of us their exciting new place. They share a love of sweets with me, so I knew I had to bring over a delicious dessert to share with everyone. Rice crispie treats are always a hit, but I decided to dress them up a bit for the special occasion. Everyone loves cake, and everyone loves rice crispie treats... So, why not combine them? I think this is going to become a staple recipe! It was so fun and easy to make, and the treats were quite the hit!

Red Velvet Rice Crispie Treats

Ingredients

-3tbsp unsalted butter
-12oz marshmallows (3/4 bag of regular sized)
-2/3 cup dry red velvet boxed cake mix
-6 cup cocoa crispie cereal
-1/3 cup sprinkles (optional)

Directions

1. Grease 9"x13" baking dish.
2. Melt butter in large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add marshmallows just before butter is fully melted. Stir continuously. (Don't turn the heat up to speed the melting process or you'll end up with burn crispie treats).
3. Add cake mix when marshmallows have become sticky and continue stirring.
4. Add cereal when marshmallows have completely lost their shape and continue stirring.
5. Add in sprinkles if you so desire and stir until incorporated.
6. Pour contents into baking dish. Using a piece of wax paper, press treats down to cover the dish evenly.
7. Allow to cool before cutting into squares.

*Use whatever kind of rice crispies and whatever kind of cake mix combination you like!
