One of my dear friends is getting married in January, so some of us bridesmaids threw her a bachelorette/bridal shower weekend extravaganza this past weekend. It was great to meet the other bridesmaids and all spend time together celebrating Diane and her soon-to-be big day! One of Diane's favorite things has always been, is, and always will be Walt Disney World, so we decided to spend day 1 of the festivities at Epcot visiting the featured countries and trying some of their delicious food and drink offerings. We visited Germany, Italy, and France, and although we were getting plenty of drinks for the bachelorette, I was the designated driver so decided to get plenty of desserts along our way. It gave me the idea to take on a Disney Dessert Challenge which would involve visiting all of the food and beverage locations across the Walt Disney World Resort and sample their dessert items. Talk about combining 2 of my favorite things- Disney and dessert!
The German bakery features cases upon cases of various desserts all of which incorporate their homemade Werther's caramel. I had a hard time making my selection, but I ended up choosing a caramel filled milk chocolate square. Its creamy chocolate melted in my mouth after each bite, and the caramel was sweet and gooey. Thank goodness it was so big because I did not want the delicious taste to end! We, then, made our way to Italy where we ordered a dessert shooter with the flavorings of Nutella and Raspberry. Although this dessert was tiny and held in a shot glass, it was so elegant and rich in flavor. Next we visited France, and although we were planning on going to the bakery, we could not bypass the crepes stand out front! We got ordered a chocolate crepe which was made to order. The sweet chocolate poured out of the thin, sweet layers of dough, and the flavor made me feel like I was actually back in the country of France. Then we made our way back to the bakery which features an assortment of gelato and macaroons. Since we couldn't decide if we wanted gelato or a macaroon, they made our decision easy and offered a scoop of gelato sandwiched between 2 macaroons. We ordered one chocolate and one pumpkin flavor, and both were the perfect combination of crunchy macaroon and smooth gelato. The taste was so good that it didn't matter that we were eating a cold dessert on a colder night!
We ended our evening with Epcot's beautiful fireworks show, Illuminations: Reflection of Earth, and I think it was safe to say that the bride-to-be weekend was off to a great start!
